Your First Movie

22 Nov 2008

Dear Jing Jing

Did you enjoy the first movie which Daddy and Mummy brought you to see last nite? It was “Body of Lies” acted by 2 of whom I considered to be the best actors in Hollywood – Leonardo di Caprio and Russell Crowe (who’s also a Oscar winner I think).

Your daddy enjoyed the show very much cos he could relate to it. Guess it’s a man’s world – espionage, violence, intelligence. For me, I enjoyed the acting. I thought Russell Crowe was great as the #$%%&* intelligence boss – he’s such a natural in blending into the role which he plays, though I must say he has put on tremendous weight. Leonardo tries his best to look Arab and act mature. And I’ll give it to him for being as convincing as he tries to be. Who could blame him for having a boyish face? I gave him credit for not staying the pretty boy.

And what feelings did I have after the movie? The Americans have half the blame on themselves for making the world a scarier place to live in. Who’d ask them to cultivate terrorists and the guys who feeds from them return to bite the hand?

I hope the world will be a more peaceful place in your era. It’s still beautiful though we live in tumultous times now.

Movie Synopsis:

Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a covert CIA operative working in Jordan searching for terrorists who have been bombing civilian targets. Ferris uncovers information on the Islamist mastermind Al-Saleem (Alon Aboutboul). He devises a plan to infiltrate Al-Saleem’s terrorist network with the help of his boss back in Langley, Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe). Ferris enlists the help of the Chief of Jordanian Intelligence, Hani Salaam (Mark Strong) on this operation, but he doesn’t know how far he can trust him without putting his life in danger. The uneasy alliance leads to a cultural and moral clash between the men.
